MINEOLA, NY, April 23, 2007 – Last week’s Nor’easter will cost $5 million in Red Cross relief across the Northeast, according to initial estimates. The storm shut down roads, flooded homes and cut off electricity to more than 700,000 homes and businesses from Maine to Pennsylvania. While the storm has passed, the American Red Cross is still assisting thousands of people who have been affected.

MINEOLA, N.Y., April 19, 2007 – Though Nassau County was left with minimal damage after last weekend’s Nor’easter, several communities throughout the Northeast received heavy flooding. The American Red Cross has responded by mobilizing disaster relief workers to meet the emergency needs of those affected. To date, the Red Cross has sheltered many individuals and families who have been forced from their homes. Additionally, the organization has provided meals and snacks to disaster victims and relief workers.

MINEOLA, NY, April 15, 2007 – The American Red Cross in Nassau County activated its emergency operations center here at 8 a.m.
Nearly two-dozen volunteers and staff of the Nassau Chapter are currently working at the EOC. Duties will be varied, but the focus will be supporting any shelters that may be needed during the nor’easter that is drenching Long Island.
