MINEOLA, NY, April 23, 2007 – Last week’s Nor’easter will cost $5 million in Red Cross relief across the Northeast, according to initial estimates. The storm shut down roads, flooded homes and cut off electricity to more than 700,000 homes and businesses from Maine to Pennsylvania. While the storm has passed, the American Red Cross is still assisting thousands of people who have been affected.

Local College Students Become Shelter Volunteers

MINEOLA, N.Y., April 21, 2007 – According to planners, if a hurricane were to strike Long Island this summer, the American Red Cross would need at least 1,500 volunteers to man the 25 shelters it might have to open in Nassau County. Unfortunately, the Nassau Chapter presently only has a few hundred volunteers available.
