MINEOLA, N.Y., April 30, 2009 -- With increasing concern by health officials that the swine flu (H1N1) outbreak is rapidly spreading and a pandemic may be imminent, the American Red Cross is strongly urging families, businesses and organizations to review and update their preparedness plans.

Capetola, Esq., distinguished attorney, restaurateur and supporter of several Long Island not-for-profits.

EAST MEADOW, N.Y., April 25, 2009 — Under sunny skies, over 200 people took part in the 2nd Annual “Cross Walk for Local Disaster Relief” at Eisenhower Park this morning and raised nearly $10,000 for the American Red Cross in Nassau County.

National Volunteer Week is designated to recognize all volunteers and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism. At the American Red Cross in Nassau County, we are especially grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who contribute their time and financial support. Many of us are ourselves volunteers. We know first-hand the selfless nature of people who give with no expectation of being paid for their time.

MINEOLA, N.Y., April 6, 2009 -- Every year, hundreds of Long Islanders find themselves homeless because of disasters like house fires. And though the American Red Cross cannot replace all that has been lost, its volunteers are able to provide food, shelter and comfort to those affected.

MINEOLA, N.Y., April 6, 2009 – As the rescue and relief effort continues in Italy in the wake of a 6.3 magnitude earthquake, the American Red Cross continues to monitor the situation. At this time, the Italian Red Cross has not asked for outside assistance; however, the American Red Cross is in communication with its sister society, as well as the International Federation, and stands ready to provide assistance if requested.
