UNIONDALE, N.Y., June 28, 2008 -- An early-morning fire damaged a Pamlico Avenue home and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County provided relief to those affected by it.

MINEOLA, N.Y., June 19, 2008 - As the rain-soaked Midwest continues to battle floodwaters from heavy storms, the American Red Cross is in its largest flood relief effort in nearly 15 years. From Kansas to West Virginia, more than 2,000 Red Cross workers are assisting people with vast amounts of clean up supplies, dozens of shelters and tens of thousands of meals.

LAKEVIEW, N.Y., June 16, 2008 -- Fire ripped through a Woodfield Road home last night and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County provided relief to those affected by it.

MINEOLA, N.Y., June 9, 2008 — The Midwest and Central Plain states have seen record rainfall amounts and tornadoes in recent weeks, forcing many from their homes. To help provide relief, local Red Cross volunteers have been asked to assist in relief efforts.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -- Marilyn Vallejo, mental health lead for the American Red Cross in Nassau County, was among featured speakers at a forum to create "Safer Campus Communities" at New York Institute of Technology, May 29.

Far too often, discussion relating to water safety does not occur until the tragic death of a child, and sadly, Long Island has experienced its first drowning death of the summer. Hopefully it will be the last, yet statistics show that over 3,000 thousand people die as a result of drowning each year in the United States—most of these deaths are children.
