MINEOLA, N.Y., June 26, 2008 - It is summertime, which can often mean hot and humid days that drive people into their air-conditioned homes for relief. With the increased use of electricity, it becomes increasingly harder for utility companies to keep up with the demand--often resulting in blackouts.

Employees of Weiser LLP in Lake Success raised $21,000 to assist Red Cross relief efforts for those affected by a deadly earthquake in China. A check was presented to Sam Kille, of the American Red Cross in Nassau County, at the Weiser offices, June 13. Far too often, discussion relating to water safety does not occur until the tragic death of a child, and sadly, Long Island has experienced its first drowning death of the summer. Hopefully it will be the last, yet statistics show that over 3,000 thousand people die as a result of drowning each year in the United States—most of these deaths are children.
