HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., June 25, 2009 - Fire ripped through the Cedar Valley Apartments on Wendell Street this afternoon, damaging at least eight apartments.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., June 25, 2009 -- A stairway collapsed in a South Franklin Street apartment building last night, leaving several residents temporarily homeless. Volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County responded to provide assistance.

According to WHO, increasing the alert to Phase 6 signifies that swine flu has spread to more countries but does not necessarily mean the virus is causing more severe illness.
