Red Cross Offers Tips for National Fire Prevention Week

MINEOLA, N.Y., Sept. 30, 2008--The American Red Cross urges families to prepare for and prevent home fires during National Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11. Alarmingly, only 26 percent of families have actually developed and practiced a home fire escape plan, according to a poll conducted by ORC International on behalf of the Red Cross.

Hockey With A Heart, Nassau Red Cross Teams With NY Islanders

MINEOLA, N.Y., Sept. 29, 2008 -- As part of its Hockey With a Heart campaign, the New York Islanders will bill their Dec. 26th game against the Toronto Maple Leafs as American Red Cross Night. In addition to promoting the lifesaving work of the American Red Cross in Nassau County, a portion of the game's proceeds will go toward local disaster relief efforts.

MINEOLA, N.Y., Sept. 26, 2008 - While the nation focuses its attention on a presidential election and Wall Street troubles, residents of the Gulf Coast are still reeling from the damage created by recent hurricanes. Here on Long Island, roughly 1,500 miles away, it is easy to forget the disaster that befell Americans from Alabama to Texas. Damage assessment isn’t complete, but at least 75,000 homes were destroyed or significantly damaged. Many are still in need of food and shelter.
