OCEANSIDE, N.Y., Jan. 13, 2008 --Residents of a Dover Road home turned to the American Red Cross in Nassau County for assistance after they were displaced by a fire, Jan. 12.
According to Mark Sacks, Red Cross volunteer, the owner of the home was provided with shelter in a nearby motel by his insurance company; however a second resident required shelter from the Red Cross. Both residents received funds from the Nassau Red Cross for food and clothing. Relief totaled $837.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost to those affected. In the past six months alone, volunteers from the Nassau Red Cross have responded to 50 local disasters--mainly home fires--and have provided nearly $60,000 in relief.
The Nassau Red Cross is able to perform its mission thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit agency. To learn how you can help, visit the American Red Cross in Nassau County at 195 Willis Avenue in Mineola, or online at www.nassauredcross.org.
