FREEPORT, N.Y., Jan. 20, 2008 -- A car slammed into a West Merrick Road home this morning, and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County responded to provide assistance.
Fortunately, there was no structural damage to the residence; however, the home will be without utilities until repairs can be made. Because of this, the Nassau Red Cross has provided the resident with temporary shelter in a nearby motel, according to Joe Rumore, Red Cross volunteer. Relief totaled $345.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost. In just over six months, volunteers from the Nassau Red Cross have responded to 55 local disasters--mainly home fires--and have provided approximately $64,000 in direct relief.
The Nassau Red Cross is able to perform its mission thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit agency. To learn how you can help, visit the American Red Cross in Nassau County at 195 Willis Avenue in Mineola, or online at www.nassauredcross.org.
