Nassau Red Cross Responds To Westbury Fire
By admin @ 12:36 PM :: 1201 Views :: 0 Comments :: Nassau County News, Press Releases

WESTBURY, N.Y., Jan. 21, 2008 -- Fire damaged a Hidden Lane home this morning, and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County responded to provide assistance.

Though damage was minimal, the utilities have been shutoff until repairs can be made. Until that time, two families--a total of four adults and six children--have been displaced. The Nassau Red Cross provided temporary shelter in a nearby motel and funds for food, according to Bruce Vesloski, Red Cross volunteer. Relief totaled $915.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost. In just over six months, volunteers from the Nassau Red Cross have responded to 56 local disasters--mainly home fires--and have provided nearly $65,000 in direct relief.

The Nassau Red Cross is able to perform its mission thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit agency. To learn how you can help, visit the American Red Cross in Nassau County at 195 Willis Avenue in Mineola, or online at www.nassauredcross.org.
