By admin @ 4:34 PM :: 1016 Views :: 0 Comments :: Nassau County News, Press Releases

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 31, 2008 -- A Park Avenue home was damaged by fire this afternoon, and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County provided relief to those affected.

Five adults and six children were displaced by the fire. They were all provided with funds for food and clothing, according to Rich Schneider, Nassau Red Cross volunteer. One resident was provided with temporary shelter in a nearby motel. Relief totaled $2,907 for the incident.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost. In the past seven months, volunteers from the Nassau Red Cross have responded to 68 local disasters--mainly home fires, and have provided over $83,000 in direct relief.

The Nassau Red Cross is only able to perform its mission thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit agency. To learn how you can help, visit the American Red Cross in Nassau County at 195 Willis Avenue in Mineola, or online at www.nassauredcross.org.
