Special Thanks to Schwarting Students
By admin @ 10:48 AM :: 1009 Views :: 0 Comments :: Nassau County News, Press Releases

Dear Editor,

Recently, while visiting Schwarting Elementary School in Massapequa, I was reminded of just how valuable our children are and that we can learn a few things from them.

I was invited to the school because the second and third grade students had held a Read-a-Thon to benefit the American Red Cross in Nassau County.

I expected to be welcomed with a simple assembly, but I was overwhelmed by the show these students put on. They all were wearing red in honor of the Red Cross and produced a slideshow of their reading activities. Additionally, they sang a beautiful medley of songs for me. It was very touching.

As a result of their efforts, these bright young minds raised $1,100 for local disaster relief. Gifts like this are crucial, especially considering that, since last July, the volunteers of the Nassau Red Cross have responded to 120 local emergencies-mainly house fires-and have provided nearly $145,000 for direct relief to over 600 Nassau residents.

As with any event of this nature, it could not have taken place without the support of the principal, Ms. Beth Wilding, and the coordinator of the event, Mrs. Dina Milito. I would also like to thank the teachers, staff and parents of the Schwarting Elementary School for their support of the children.

Most importantly though, I really would like to let the students of Schwarting know just how grateful I am for their hospitality and generous donation.

Sincerely,

Robert Nori

Development Director,
