MINEOLA, N.Y., June 12, 2008—Sadly, floodwaters continue to rise throughout the Midwest as record rainfalls cause rivers to crest. Additionally, storms have helped spawn a number of devastating tornados in the region.
Because of this, hundreds of displaced residents are being sheltered and fed at American Red Cross shelters. The American Red Cross is prepared to provide additional support as needed with trained workers and supplies. Presently, four local volunteers from the Nassau County Chapter are in the region and more are ready to go if called upon.
During times like this, Long Islanders often ask how they can help. One way is through the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which provides assistance during countless crises throughout the year. Financial gifts made to the fund provide immediate relief and long-term support through needed supplies and technical assistance.
To make a gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, Long Islanders can visit their local Red Cross chapter or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. They can also make a secure, online donation at www.redcross.org. The American Red Cross in Nassau County is located at 195 Willis Avenue in Mineola. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster please do so at the time of your donation.
