JERICHO, N.Y., June 12, 2008 - Three families were displaced from their Manors at Jericho townhouses after a fire this morning. Volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County provided assistance.
Two families--one comprised of a married couple and their two sons, ages 7 and 9; and the other a married couple--accepted funds for food and clothing from the Nassau Red Cross. Additionally, trained mental health volunteers provided counseling. Relief for the incident totaled $1,630.
All of the residents were able to seek shelter with family or friends. All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost to those affected. In just over 11 months, volunteers from the Nassau Red Cross have responded to over 130 local emergencies--mainly home fires--and have provided $152,000 in relief to nearly 670 Nassau residents.
