MEDIA ADVISORY – HIT THE BEACH FOR DISASTER RELIEF!
WHAT: 19th Annual Swim-A-Cross and first-ever Beach Bash BBQ.
WHY: To raise funds for local disaster relief in Nassau County. In the last twelve months, volunteers from the Nassau Red Cross have responded to 140 local incidents and have provided nearly $160,000 in direct relief like food, shelter and clothing to Nassau residents – a sixty-percent increase over the previous year. Being a non-profit, the Nassau Red Cross relies on the generosity of donors to provide that relief.
WHO: Swimmers of all ages will dive into Oyster Bay Harbor and swim varied distances from 200 yards up to a mile. To help promote a family-friendly event, there will be inflatable bouncers and slides as well as food. New York Islander Bruno Gervais will be on hand from 11:30-1 PM to sign autographs.
WHEN: SATURDAY, July 19, 2008. The Beach Bash runs from 11:30-3 PM. Swimmers will hit the water at 1:30 PM.
WHERE: Centre Island Beach, Bayville Avenue, Bayville, N.Y.
