Fire Displaces 13 in Hempstead, Nassau Red Cross Responds

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Jan. 26, 2009 -- Fire damaged a multi-family residence on Fiske Place this morning, and the American Red Cross in Nassau County provided assistance.

Thirteen people were displaced by the blaze. The Nassau Red Cross provided the residents with funds for food and clothing, totaling $3,700. Fortunately, the residents were able to seek shelter on their own.

Additionally, the Red Cross provided firefighters with warm beverages and snacks.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost to those affected, thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit.
