UNIONDALE, N.Y., Feb. 17, 2009 -- Fire damaged a Clare Road home last this morning and the American Red Cross in Nassau County provided assistance.

Eleven people were displaced by the fire. So far, the Nassau Red Cross has provided eight with funds for food and only four needed temporary shelter in a nearby motel, according to volunteer Bruce Vesloski. Three of the residents were not at the scene.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is provided at no cost to those affected, thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit.
