UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 20, 2009 -- Fire damaged a Gerald Street home tonight and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nassau County are providing assistance.

Presently, six people are being provided temporary shelter in a nearby motel, as well as funds for food, according to volunteer Sal Montoro.

All Red Cross assistance is provided at no cost to those affected, thanks to the generosity of individuals who donate their time or money to the nonprofit agency.
